Councils gardeners
In September, cucumbers and zucchini often become ill with powdery mildew. Leaves with the first mealy spots are better for removing. It is possible to treat plants with tiovit jet, phytosporin-M, alirin-B. If there is a mullein, you can use it for treatment. A kilogram of mullein is diluted in 10 liters of water, allowed to stand for a few hours, filtered and sprayed on cucumbers. After 7-10 days of treatment, repeat.
It is advisable to prepare the bed in advance for the October planting of winter garlic. Under the digging we add humus or compost (bucket), phosphate and potash fertilizers (according to st. Spoon of superphosphate and potassium sulfate per sq. M.). Digging, carefully select the rhizomes of wheat grass, field bindweed.
By leveling the bed with a rake, polish it to cause weed growth. The more seeds come up in the fall, the less will remain in the spring. To destroy the weeds in the seedling stage, it is enough to work with a rake.
Last feeding
Late cabbage in September, you can feed the last time: Art. spoon superphosphate 10 liters of water. Will require dressings and broccoli, cauliflower July sowing: Art. spoon of superphosphate and 0.5 liters of organic infusion (bird's, mullein or green grass) to 10 liters of water.
We fertilize potato planting in July by scattering wood ash or potassium sulphate (st. Spoon per linear meter) before loosening and watering.
Cucumbers, which began to produce "hooks", also need to cheer: a teaspoon of urea and potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water. For foliar top dressing, 1 g of urea per liter of water is sufficient.
Prepare for the winter better by getting phosphorus-potassium supplements, perennial vegetables: asparagus, onion-batun, rhubarb (per tablespoon of potassium sulfate and superphosphate per 10 liters of water).
In Brussels sprouts remove the bottom yellowed leaves. In order for the roaches to grow dense, we remove the apical buds from the plants in mid-September. A month later, you can remove the tops: they still do not form a full-fledged kochanchiki.
Podorachivayem stalk celery, leek. We unzip the upper part of root vegetables of celery.
We continue to harvest
In September, we are not yet exempt from harvesting. But in the second half of the month you need to be ready for the first frost. After them, the weather is usually set to warm, and it is a pity to look at bushes of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and cucumbers wilted by frost.
Plants will not die if they are covered with non-woven fabric before frost. Now, weather forecasters still rather accurately warn us about changes in the weather.
At the end of the month it is already possible to collect all the tomatoes, cut the peppers and eggplants. It is better to sort the tomatoes right into the ripeness stages. If you want the fruits to be sung gradually, the greens are not mixed in one box with ripe ones. Tomatoes (even varieties not intended for storage) can be stored for up to two months or longer.
Ripe fruits are well stored at low temperatures. Green needs to be warm to keep up. Pepper is also well kept. So that the fruit does not wither, they can be filled with sawdust or wrap each peppercorn with paper.
We are not in a hurry with digging up root crops if there is no place for them in the refrigerator. The cellars, the cellars still remain warm in October, and there is simply no place to store carrots and beets so that it does not fail. In addition, in September, root crops in the beds are actively gaining weight.
But “not in a hurry” does not mean leaving the roots in the garden before the predicted frosts. This is especially true of beets: roots protruding above the ground may suffer from the first sub-zero temperatures. A carrot, if it has been trained during the growing season, will safely survive the first frosts. Daikon will not suffer.
Before the first frost we remove the pumpkin. Mature fruits are colored according to the variety, their skin is hard (it is difficult to damage it with a fingernail), the stem has corked. To keep the pumpkins, cut them with a stem. Fruits without a stem, with damaged skin, it is desirable to use in the near future: they will not be stored. Warming up the pumpkin for 7-10 days in the sun, remove it in a dark, cool, dry place.
Late varieties of white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cut only for the table. Unless, of course, white-headed cabbages do not crack, and the heads of color and broccoli are not going to crumble. We will pick up the cabbage for storage later. Short day, moderate temperatures are favorable for all kinds of it.
Potato late planting, if the tubers have ripened, it is better not to leave the soil. Moreover, it can, without prejudice to the quality immediately after digging, lie down in a dark, cool room to dry out, heal the wounds made during digging, and the peel on the tubers will become overburdened.
Potatoes are best scattered on a burlap, kraft paper. Small tubers, selected for spring planting from the most productive bushes, can be immediately prozolelenit, spreading out for ten days in a bright place (but not in direct sunlight).
Small tubers of late harvest formed later than large ones, i.e., in cooler weather, and therefore more suitable for planting. Keep such potatoes need to separate from the tubers intended for the kitchen. Glowed tubers are less sick, deteriorate, give a higher yield.
Potatoes that have gone through a “healing” period would be good to drop into board boxes: it is better ventilated there. They can later be lowered into the basement.
In September, there is still a lot of work in the garden and in the flower garden. About everything that needs to be done in the country at the beginning of autumn read here ⇒
