Glue has been used for hundreds of years, if not more. One of the latest innovations in this area is the so-called cold welding. Its popularity among consumers is due to its attractive practical qualities.
The production of "Almaz-press" has proved itself only on the positive side. It is manufactured by one of the leading domestic concerns of the chemical industry. Delivery of goods to consumers is carried out in plastic cylinders. Strengthen the protection against adverse factors, the manufacturer tried by wrapping it in cellophane. Outside, the substance is painted white, but the central part is characterized by gray color.
According to the instructions, the glue should not flake. When the white component of the mixture remains on the hands, this leads to an imbalance in the chemical balance and to a deterioration in the basic adhesive properties of the substance. Wetting your hands before work helps prevent this development. The manufacturer does not recommend to immediately apply the entire mass of the composition without the need. The substance leaving the tube can only be used once.
Advantages and disadvantages
Universal cold welding different positive properties such as:
- increased ductility;
- the possibility of cutting and molding (only before mixing);
- no need for auxiliary tools and fixtures;
- the possibility of bonding almost all substances that regularly have to combine in living conditions.
Even materials that are heterogeneous in structure are easily connected. Smooth metal and rough wood or smooth glass paired with porous rubber is a clear confirmation of this. Supply of glue is made in different capacity containers, you can immediately buy 58 or 585 g, depending on need.
If the adhesive mixture is not needed immediately, its shelf life makes it possible to postpone use for a long time. The range of temperatures allowed for operation is quite large, which makes it easy to ensure an optimal mode.
There are certain limitations. So, in comparison with import mixes of a similar purpose, “Diamond” cannot be considered an attractive option. After drying, the adhesive layer is very weak mechanically and is easily destroyed. For the most part, cold welding is designed to perform minor household tasks, and when trying to connect large or critical structures, the manufacturer is not responsible. When mixing the components, there are many lumps that impair the characteristics of the seam, and the outer mass adheres too easily to extraneous dry surfaces.
Diamond cold welding, based on epoxy resins, is mostly used where there are no alternatives. It is also allowed to use the composition for repairing broken ceramics, including dishes. It can even replace lost fragments of cups and plates. Of course, as with the use of other adhesives, it will be necessary to work on cleaning the surfaces from all sorts of impurities. After the reagent has hardened, the restored areas should be ground, painted and polished, depending on the specific situation.
The universal composition is suitable even for plumbing, successfully eliminating leaks in tanks and pipes. The same mixture copes well with the restoration of tightness of gasoline tanks. The disadvantage of a universal solution is that it is not designed for very low and very high temperatures. There is a special plumbing option that is ideal for the reconstruction of sinks and washbasins made of porcelain, earthenware and other materials. External white color contributes to effective masking of the seam and improves the perception of plumbing.
Particular attention should be paid to glue on wood. He confidently copes not only with wood in the proper sense of the word, but also with chipboard, MDF, with other wood-based materials. Judging by the reviews, this composition helps a lot in the repair and reconstruction of furniture products. The form of reconstructed joints is very different: you can use it to restore the integrity of the seams in the shape of the letter T, or located at the end, or placed at an angle. Due to this glue, it is possible to increase the strength of the joints with the help of screws, if you carefully spread the ends of the fastener.
Heat-resistant cold welding for road transport performs well during the reconstruction of threaded connections in the household. The cylinder block and crankcase, radiators and gasoline tanks easily and quickly restore their integrity. You can seal the place for fixing the bearings. A side effect is the effective combination of road signs and emblems. Delivery is carried out in containers of 30 and 58 g.
Regardless of the specific type of cold welding, it is advisable not only to degrease the surface, but also to treat it with emery. After this treatment, the composition is attached better, dries faster and keeps the parts to be joined more confidently. An attractive solution in some situations is glue with a filling of steel. It works well with the same steel, ceramics, organic glass.
It is recommended to wear strong work gloves before using “Almaz”. The mixture can maintain plasticity longer if it is thoroughly heated. For a more stable bond between the surfaces, it is necessary to fix the parts with a clamp (vice) between the surfaces or to press them against each other with a load.
Normal curing times vary from 60 to 120 minutes. The usual use of a repaired or newly made object can begin one day after gluing.
