Diy decoupage - 70 photos of design ideas
If you want to give the bored elements of home interior an original vintage look, then the ideal option would be to use decoupage technique.
At the same time, it is not at all necessary to run to the nearest antique shop - it is quite possible to make the decoration of items in retro style on your own.
Consider the features of using this technology on the example of three things that can be found in any home: a regular bottle, an old box and a chest of drawers that has seen a lot in its lifetime.
Decoupage bottle
The objects reminding of rest on the seashore will perfectly fit into the interior. For their design you will need:
- small flat bottle;
- color images with a marine theme;
- paper napkin;
- small sea stones, shells;
- twine;
- acrylic lacquer and paint;
- PVA glue;
- glue gun or brush.
Before decorating the bottle, you need to clear the labels, wash and dry thoroughly, and then apply two layers of white acrylic paint.
After drying, you can proceed to the decor and perform the following steps:
Color images for a few minutes to place in water, then a little dry.
On the part of the bottle where the picture will be placed, apply acrylic varnish, carefully attach the image and cover it with another layer of varnish on top.
Make napkins of sea waves with a napkin, fix them with the help of PVA glue.
Cover the bottom of the bottle with light brown paint, creating an imitation of sand. Here you can attach and stones with shells.
Tie the bottle neck with twine.
Decoupage box
To turn an unnecessary cardboard box into a casket for jewelry, you will need:
- three-layer paper napkins with bright patterns;
- acrylic paints and varnish;
- special decoupage adhesive or plain white glue;
- brush;
- cellophane film;
- small tissue shred;
- glitters.
After clearing the future box from all labels, you need to do the following:
Paint the inner surface of the box with light paint, and outside use the color combined with the shades of napkins. To achieve a smooth tone, it is necessary to apply paint in several layers, each time letting the previous layer dry well.
Apply glue to the box cover.
Remove the top, colored layer of napkin. Wrap a crumpled piece of fabric with a film and form a clump of neatly straighten it and press the napkin against the lid of the box, “expelling” the air bubbles.
Let the lid dry.
Decorate the contours of the pattern, its individual elements with glitter, but not get too carried away. All this can be covered with transparent varnish on top.
After thoroughly drying with a sprayer, apply several layers of acrylic lacquer on the lid.
The resulting box is suitable not only for storing jewelry, but also for small sachets of spices and culinary additives.
In this way, you can decorate almost any element of the interior, including the sink and kitchen appliances.
Chest decoupage
The old chest of drawers, which has served more than one generation and keeps various family relics, can also be transformed with the help of decoupage technique. For this you will need:
- rarity itself;
- paper napkins with a floral or delicious fruit and berry pattern;
- glue for decoupage;
- acrylic paint;
- colorless varnish;
- narrow and wide brush;
- roller;
- scissors;
- fine sandpaper.
Having prepared the necessary materials, proceed to the design:
With the help of sandpaper, we erase individual places of the dresser, thereby giving it an aged, “worn” look.
Apply a brown acrylic paint to the edges and wooden handles of the dresser with a soft brush with smooth lines, and after drying, rub them with wax to protect them from damage during further sandpaper cleaning.
Using a roller, cover the chest with white acrylic paint in two layers, letting the previous layer dry well.
After the paint dries, all irregularities are treated with sandpaper.
Using a soft brush, apply glue to those areas of the dresser that will decorate the colored elements of napkins, and glue them.
After the surface has dried, we rub the places painted with brown paint with an emery paper, thereby creating a worn effect.
We cover the chest with a colorless acrylic lacquer in at least 10 layers, giving each layer time to dry.
Decoupage is an original solution for those who seek to create and maintain comfort in their home.
Many things in the hands of not even an experienced master with the help of this technique can transform beyond recognition and get a second, more stylish and colorful life.
