Services for children with special needs

You and your children may be eligible for scholarships and financial aid to finish high school or get a college degree. Scholarships, loans, internships, and other financial aid programs are available from a wide variety of sources such as:

  • State and Federal Government
  • Business
  • Religious organizations and charities
  • Foundations
  • Universities

Some programs target groups like people living in a particular State or people with talents like music or sports. Many awards focus on financial need.

    Where to go
    1. Good sources of information on student aid are college financial aid administrators, high school guidance counselors, and free web sites.

    2. The free web sites ask you questions such as where you live, what your interests are, and what your financial situation is. Their computer programs then search through records of thousands of organizations and give you a list of possibilities that might fit you. Here are search programs that will get you on the right track:

  • Click here to open The College Board Online Scholarship Search
  • Click here to see the Federal government's programs and an online application.

    3. Click here to visit The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, founded to help Hispanic-American college students complete their education.

    4. A significant source of help is right here in our backyard in Seattle. The Gates Millenium Scholars initiative is aimed at expanding access to higher education for students of color. Click here to find out more about Gates Scholars.
